Make Your Holiday Trip a Breeze
The hustle and bustle of the holiday season is upon us again. Everyone is excited about their holiday plans, rushing to get everything done in time. Finishing up gift purchases and getting travel plans in order can get overwhelming. Whether you are taking a road trip to Grandma's house in the beautiful Lake of the Ozarks or flying to some exotic location, we have some top travel tips for you!
1. Prepare the Night Before.
Have a plan for how your trip will go and have everything ready the night before your departure. If you are flying, print your boarding passes from home if possible. Be sure to have all maps printed out and destination addresses ready to go. If you have a
holiday vacation rental make sure to have all the check-in procedures with you. If you are driving, it is a good idea to fill up your gas tank the night before and be sure to check your tires and oil. You probably won't think about it until you start to take off and then you haven't left yourself enough time.
2. Don't Get Caught in a Jam.
Issues are bound to come up, so be sure to give yourself enough time to get there without rushing. Leave some time to make bathroom stops if you are driving. Leaving earlier in the morning or later in the evening can help you avoid traffic. Also, most people will be traveling the day before Christmas; plan to leave a day early or even travel on Christmas Day. Some airlines give discounted rates on Off-Peak days. If you are flying, be sure to arrive at the airport early enough to get through security. Also check the restrictions and guidelines for your airline so you don't have any surprises at the airport.
3. Don't Let Your Tummy Rumble.
You are sitting on a nice quiet flight and all of a sudden your stomach starts growling; isn't that the worst? Or if you are driving, you don't want to stop all the time to grab food. Be sure to pack snacks, especially if you have kids, to keep their tummies full. This will also help keep the kids occupied and hopefully keep them from complaining as much.
4. Bring a Cell Phone and Charger.
It is always a good idea to have a charged cellphone handy in case of an emergency. You should also have a list of contact numbers in case of car problems or other issues that could arise. If something does happen, you want to be able to get a hold of your family that is expecting you to let them know you are running late.
5. Have Water and a Blanket Handy.
In the event of an emergency, it is always a good idea to have water and blankets in your care especially during the cold weather season. If you get stranded with snow on the ground, you want to be able to stay warm and hydrated while help is on the way.
Especially if you are flying, you typically seem to run our of room while packing. Shipping your gifts is a great way to make more space in your car or avoid checking extra bags at the airport. Taking gifts though security can be challenging and some airlines may make you unwrap them. If you shop online, you can even have your gifts delivered to your destination to save on shipping costs!
7. Be Sure to Breathe.
Holiday travel stress is inevitable. If something goes wrong, just laugh it off and remember that it will make a great story during dinner. Having a plan though as mentioned above and following these steps should help to cut down on that stress.
